Creating Bucket Binders: A Home for All the Important School Papers

In the Rockies, school has started.  The reams of class disclosures, class schedules, snack schedules, and school newsletter have started to roll in.  There are pass codes to remember to access textbooks, teacher websites, and grade records.  Their are school schedules and extra-curricular calendars to keep handy.  While many of these paper items have gone electronic or are simply managed on a school website, hard copies still come home for off-line student reference.

This weekend, vow to create a “bucket-binder” for each child. Below is a list of potential papers to include:

  • IEP
  • Class disclosure forms AKA Class Policy and Procedures
  • School calendar
  • School handbook
  • School phone directory
  • Extra-curricular calendars
  • List of computer passwords to access textbooks, teacher websites, private gradelink pages
  • Current handwriting sample
  • Child’s goals for the school year
  • Parent’s goals for the school year
  • Examples of your child’s excellent work
  • Examples of your child’s difficult works (especially helpful for follow-up IEP meetings)
  • Scout records/ patches
  • Project directions
